Local Author Spotlight: B.K. Borison

Introducing, B.K. Borison

I wanted to shine a spotlight on one of my favorite authors of all time and one that is actually a Baltimore local. Introducing – B.K. Borison. I am posting the Author Profile from Penguin Random House below for a little info about her because it was so cute, and the link is attached above.

It’s funny, B.K. Borison actually posted a thread a few weeks ago, telling Baltimore gals to save the date of September 17th. I added this to my calendar immediately and decided that no matter what was going on, that would be the day I posted my blog feature on her. I’ll have to check back in once I see what she was referring to (if something is still happening).

Last year, a friend introduced me to the Lovelight Farms series by B.K. Borison. Romance is one of my top 2 favorite genres, so I quickly added all four books to my TBR. A short time after this, I saw the first announcement for First-Time Caller. After a quick add to my TBR & a few trips to Walmart to pick up a few of the purple special editions for myself and a few friends, I was hooked. First-Time Caller has become one of my favorite romance books of all time and B.K. Borison is now an auto-buy author for me.

Barnes & Noble Signing – White Marsh, MD – 3.22.25

When I heard that B.K. Borison was doing a book signing at the new Barnes & Noble in White Marsh in March, I knew I had to be there. A friend had created a group chat of Bookstagram girls that live in Maryland and a bunch of us made plans to meet up at the signing, a few of us continuing on to get lunch together after. A lot of us had never met in person – this had just been a group where we shared local events and exciting news. We continue to add fellow Maryland bookstagram girls who are passionate readers and are up to almost 100 gals as of September. One extremely generous girl from the group, Sarah, lives less than 5 minutes away from me and offered to give me a ride to this specific event. We got there early, parked, and headed into the café to grab some coffee and meet the other girls. It was so cool to get to meet so many women that I have been chatting with for months! As the last few gals made their way to the group, we solidified our spot in the line for the signing.

Somehow I ended up as the first one in our group to talk to B.K. Borison, get my books signed & get a pic. I always get nervous when attending these events and I tend to practice what I am going to say first before the moment actually comes around, but to this day, I still have absolutely no idea what I said. I know that I introduced myself and told her how much I loved First-Time Caller. How it has become one of my favorite romances of all time with it not only being such a phenomenal book, but how “home-y” it felt with the setting being my home town of Baltimore. I also remember mentioning how well she described the vibes of working in a radio station- it put me right back into the booth when I did a brief period of late-night radio shows with some friends in college. She loved this and asked more about this experience, then mentioned how she loved my “purple-pink sandwich” – a purple copy & regular copy for myself with an extra purple copy for a friend in Florida. She noticed our group and asked if we all just met or if we had known each other before, which is when we explained the “MD Gals Group Chat” to B.K. Borison. Honestly, one of my favorite bookish moments this year, and maybe of all time. We got a large group photo before we all headed out for lunch.

Barnes & Noble Signing – Westminster, MD – 7.30.25

When I saw another opportunity to meet B.K. Borison somewhere local, I jumped at the opportunity. Before the March signing, I had only read First-Time Caller and by July, I had read 3/4 of the books in the Lovelight Farms Series. I got physical copies of all four books, so I was excited to have all of B.K.’s current books AND the opportunity to have them all signed. This was a unique event – B.K. Borison was the ribbon-cutter at the new B&N in Westminster. The ribbon-cutting was at 9am and the signing began right after. The line was already pretty long by the time I joined in with many adults, some children, and Biscuit the dog! The café opened immediately and the line was intense – all of my love went to the employees at the café and the bookstore on this day as it was extremely busy, but the staff handled the influx with grace and smiles.

For the grand opening of this new B&N location, they scheduled a bunch of first-day, first-week & first-month signings. B.K. Borison kicked it off on Day 1, joined by Chloe Liese right after the opening. Chloe Liese is another phenomenal romance author – the same friend that recommended the Lovelight Farms Series had recommended the Wilmot Sisters Series & actually sent me the second book as a gift for my birthday in December. Since then, I have read all three books and purchased the other two books to get signed by Chloe. I came to love all three books in the series, but book 2 (Better Hate Than Never) is definitely my favorite due to the migraine representation!

B.K. Borison was so much fun as usual. She greeted all of the readers and their children with a smile and conversation. Just like the previous time, Everly (from B&N White Marsh) let me put my stuff off to the side near her when I got to the front, took a pic for me, and we chatted for a bit about the upcoming Midnight Release Party (more on that later)! For this signing, I was wearing my “Heartstrings Baltimore’s Romance Hotline” t-shirt from Dark Midnight Design Co (website link attached & other items pictured at the very bottom), which she complimented & I showed her the other items from their shop that I got as well (highly recommend btw!) I got all of my Lovelight Farms books signed and another pic with BKB that I will cherish forever. None of the same MD Booksta Gals from the chat were able to make it, but I was able to meet up with 2 new friends from the group!

Upcoming Event – Good Spirits Midnight Release Party – 10.20.25-10.21.25

As mentioned before, Everly and I got to chatting about the Midnight Release party for Good Spirits. B&N White Marsh had posted about this a bit ago with a link to sign up and it sold out so quickly! I was blessed to get a ticket right off the bat, but there is a wait list for those that are still interested. On October 20th, we will gather at the White Marsh location to celebrate the release of B.K. Borison’s newest book, Good Spirits. B.K. will be joined by fellow author Lindsey Kelk, author of “The Bell Witches”, for a discussion and signing.

They recently posted an update on Instagram with what to expect!

  • Check-in beginning around 9:30pm, doors open at 10pm.
  • Readers can grab a hot chocolate or mocha at the cafe when they arrive.
  • B.K. & Lindsey will start their discussion around 10:30pm and there will be an opportunity for questions (pre-submitted through Google Forms)
  • Limited seating for the discussion with it being primarily standing room. If you have any health concerns that require you to be seated for the discussion, please let the bookseller know when you check in.
  • A raffle with 2 winners.
  • Requires a ticket for entry. If you hold a ticket but can no longer attend, please let them know as soon as possible so they can offer the spot to someone on the waitlist.

I am beyond excited for this event and will absolutely be posting updates after. If you’re a local reader that is attending, let me know! And if there’s any other local events that you think I should attend & write about, feel free to shoot me a message on Instagram (@readjobooks).

Thank you for checking out my first Local Author Spotlight. There will absolutely be more to come. I plan to highlight a bunch of LOCAL authors as well as a bunch of INDIE authors in my blog, as well as my podcast. Stay tuned for more recommendations and reviews!
