A question that I get very frequently is which edibles I have tried so far and which ones I actually enjoy. Below, I will explain the ones I have had & my opinions of them, with pictures included. Before I get to that, I want to talk briefly about the medical market in Maryland. Most companies have been limited to a maximum of 10mg THC per dose. This was due to a change in the regulations last year. Only a few companies were able to get higher dosage edibles approved – Curio & Wana chews. Curio also launched their own high dosage chocolates, available exclusively at their home store in Timonium.
I used to work a desk job where I didn’t get much time for breaks besides my lunch break, where I would of course make to take some time away to hit my vape. My need to be medicated during the day increased and I turned to edibles and oils to assist in this.
INCREDIBLES – 1:1 STRAHHHBERRY
I want to start with one of the first edibles that I have tried in Maryland. Selected primarily for the ability to consume while working, without interfering with my focus. Each gummy has 10mg of THC and 10mg of CBD. The total package contains 10 pieces, a total of 100mg THC and 100mg CBD. The flavor is a sweet strawberry, with only a slight taste of THC distillate. I started consuming these one at a time, taking one in the morning at the beginning of my shift and one in the afternoon after my break. This would get me where I needed to be and assist me in getting through my work day. I felt that these gummies gave me a nice head high and distracted me from the pain long enough for me to medicate again. I definitely recommend this for anyone just starting with edibles in the MD market. If you are looking for something that will help take the pain away for a bit without giving you the full head high and relaxing/sleepy feeling, these could be an option for you!
INCREDIBLES – BERRY 5:1
Formerly called the Snozzzberry 5:1’s, these are fantastic for sleep. I am going to be honest and say that I completely underestimated the power of CBN. A friend, Patrick, recommended I start supplementing CBN into my routine to assist with my sleeping issues. I was having trouble getting to sleep and then staying asleep through the night. The first time I bought these, I thought I would be able to handle taking two. I was extremely wrong. I slept through all of my alarms the following morning and was late to work. If trying CBN for the first time, I would recommend sticking with the minimum dosage until you find your sweet spot. HIGHLY recommend these Berry 5:1 gummies for nighttime as they are now my favorite!
GARCIA HAND PICKED – JERRY’S PICKS
The Garcia Hand Picked brand has quickly become one of my budding favorites lately. I love their flower – Florida Kush ANY DAY for my indica, Burmese Mimosa & Caps Frozen Lemons for sativas, and finally Chem Chillz & Hifi for the hybrids (though I do prefer Chem Chillz hybrid-wise.) As soon as I saw that they released edibles, I was quick to try them. These all-natural hybrid gummies each have a different berry flavor – blueberry, raspberry and blackberry. They are in the shape of guitar picks – hence the name “Jerry’s Picks”. There are 20 pieces total with each piece being 5mg THC. The total package is 100mg THC. I personally feel like they don’t leave you with that super cannabis-y aftertaste. I love the flavors and the gummies themselves are not hard to chew. Very tart and tasty! I am able to take these during the day and at night. The effects were definitely more of an indica feel for me. I felt extremely relaxed with a nice head high. I am able to take these during the day and at night. Definitely recommended if you are looking for something with a good amount of pieces, with more than one flavor.
SELECT – POMEGRANATE INDICA FAST ACTING BITES
I recently got the opportunity to try the Select fast-acting bites. These gummies are soft and sugar coated. With water-soluble cannabinoids, these bites typically kick in within 15-30 minutes. There are 20 pieces in the pack with 5mg per piece. The package totals 100mg. I liked these a lot, especially since there were 20 pieces – it made me feel like these lasted longer. The pomegranate taste was sweet and again, they didn’t have the super cannabis-y taste. The effects came on quickly, though I did have to up my total dosage to 10mg each time. I definitely felt happy, relaxed and sleepy. Recommended for micro-dosing in the late afternoon or evening.
BETTY’S EDDIES – LEMON AGAVE MELATONIN
Betty’s Eddies are a fantastic option if you are looking for something 100% vegan, gluten-free, and organic wherever possible. The bedtime chews combine full-spectrum cannabis oil with soothing agave, lemon and melatonin. The chews are more of a taffy than a gummy, and can be harder for some to chew. These used to come in packs of 5 pieces with 25mg per piece. Betty’s Eddies had to bring all of these back in and re-dose them according to the new Maryland medical regulations, but they have begun their return to the MD market. I am down to my last two of these…. getting closer to the expiration date but I haven’t wanted to admit that they will truly be gone after these two. I am grateful that Betty’s Eddies are still able to release these chews in 10mg, but still a little disappointed that they were not able to get the higher dosage edibles approved. I did just recently grab one of the newly distributed 10-packs. I have to admit that the flavor and effects are still the same, though they do not pack the same punch as they previously did. If you were someone who had to take multiple 25mg Betty’s, you may need to look into some higher-dosage edibles or you may fly through the 10mg 10-pack. Still highly recommended for those struggling with relaxing before bed or trouble sleeping altogether! That melatonin does not play…
WANA – BLOOD ORANGE
If you ask most budtenders at ReLeaf Shop, this is one of two main Wana flavors that will be suggested to you. The Blood Orange chews are higher dosage – 30mg per piece for a total of 300mg in the pack. These chews are vegan, gluten-free, and use all-natural flavors and colors. They are enhanced with a proprietary blend of 30+ terpenes, giving a high-dose sativa effect. These will not melt in hot weather. I really enjoyed the blood orange chews as a flavor, though they are not my favorite Wana chew – just a little bit sour and tart. The effects were long-lasting – at least 4-6 hours. The sativa terpenes enhanced my mood and kept me motivated to continue moving during the day.
WANA – RASPBERRY LIMEADE
Like the Blood Orange chews, these are higher dosage – 30mg per piece for a total of 300mg in the pack. Like the Blood Orange and all other Wana chews, they are vegan, gluten-free, and use all-natural flavors and colors. They are enhanced with a proprietary blend of 30+ terpenes, giving a high-dose indica effect. These will not melt in hot weather. These have quickly become my favorite Wana chew. I like the flavor and don’t feel like it’s overly sour. The flavor profile is berry with tart citrus, and doesn’t leave a bad aftertaste in your mouth. The effects are definitely indica, bringing relaxation and sleepiness. I like the dosage on this one. I lean more towards indicas for my symptoms, so these were really nice. I found that I was even able to take a half of one during the day without feeling too sleepy.
EVERMORE – CHOCOLATE DISCOS
Evermore Chocolate Discos are another original favorite of mine. Discos are made with Full Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO) and cacao that is USDA Organic, GMO-free, Vegan, Soy & Dairy Free, as well as Direct Trade Certified. What does this mean? It’s premium grade and high quality. You will enjoy them if you enjoy chocolate! These are known for their relaxing effects, bringing relief and relaxation, as well as some sleepiness. Evermore recently released some new Discos that have toppings. These include “Old Bae Spice”, “Crispy Rice”, “Candied Ginger”, Strawberry, “Habanero – Sea Salt” and “White Chocolate Raspberry”
CURIO – BLACK CHERRY VANILLA CHEWS
I was a little skeptical about trying the Black Cherry Vanilla chews from Curio – I heard a mix of reviews, with some saying that there was a bad aftertaste. I finally decided to see for myself and took a chance on a flavor that I wasn’t sure if I would like (I am very picky when it comes to flavors). I love the taste of these and feel like there isn’t much of an aftertaste. Curio chews are made with CO2 distillate, gelatin-free and made with natural flavors and colors. The onset is generally between 60-90 minutes and can last from 3-5 hours on average. I really enjoy the Black Cherry Vanilla chews – they leave me feeling relaxed, blissful and euphoric for a few hours. I can still be productive during the high. When I took 2, I felt extremely relaxed and happy for hours. I feel like this is a good option for anyone with chronic pain – it kept my mind off of my nerve pain, anxiety and depression for a few hours, which is something I am consistently focused on. I can tell you that this is something I will definitely be getting again. With the limited amount of high dosage edibles in MD, this is definitely a good option for the effects.
ENCORE – SOUR MANDARIN 1:1
The Sour Mandarin 1:1 gummies were the first edible I tried from the MD market. They were originally the “Verano Chewable Troches”. In all honesty, I had my first one on the day I applied for my medical card. I was desperate for relief – I had been in a migraine cycle for days and it literally felt like someone was stabbing both sides of my head. I was in tears, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat, and I was nauseous beyond belief. I was getting ready to admit myself to the hospital when my father suggested I try one of the gummies. I took one and after about half an hour, felt some relief. After another one, I was starting to feel a break in the migraine and eye pain. I applied for my card that night and when I got my approval months later, I started picking these up regularly. I eventually branched into trying other products, but recently utilized them once again for a trip to South Dakota, where I knew the flights would wear on me and cause comfortability. My father still uses primarily just these for his pain relief – whenever the shops he goes to are out of them, he searches around for them elsewhere, but prefers not to substitute them. These have become a staple in his life for his chronic knee pain.
The Sour Mandarin 1:1 gummies have a strong, sour citrus flavor, with not much of a cannabis-y taste. The top of the gummies does have some of the sugar on it. The flavor used to be a little more mild with circular, non-coated drops, before Verano changed them to Encore. The total package contains 100mg THC and 100mg CBD, with each gummy having 10mg THC & 10mg CBD. These gummies are non-GMO, pesticide-free, and vegan. Effects include relaxation, pain-relief, and sleepiness.
